Lakeside Equipment Two (2) 25-foot Spiraflo Clarifiers Full Surface Skimming
Equipment Maintenance Running 24 hours per day with 2 hours of routine maintenance per week. |
In 1995, two 25-foot diameter, 12-foot deep Lakeside Spiraflo Clarifiers were installed at the Guilderland Center Wastewater Facility to provide solids separation for the conventional activated sludge process. Lakeside's equipment works well in the Guilderland plant, properly accepting peak flows. The Spiraflo is designed with a peripheral feed flow patter to dissipate influent around the side walls and under the skirt.
With a design flow of 0.560 million gallons per day (mgd), the plant is capable of treating, at peak, more than 1.00 mgd. At the industrial park, only one Spiraflo (with a design flow of 0.280 mgd) is in operation for flows as low as 0.120 mgd and also successfully manages peaks of 0.789 mgd.
While Lakeside's clarifiers significantly reduce floating materials in the clarifier's raceway, Guilderland uses additional Motorized Full Surface Skimming in each clarifier tank. The skimmer sweeps the entire area between the skirt and the effluent launders. The skimming blade maintains complete contact with the water's surface, pushing materials to the rotating scum trough assembly that reaches the full radial length of the tank.
A decade later, the Spiraflos still operate with little to no maintenance. Plant Operator Toni Zacardo is satisfied with Lakeside's equipment, service and personnel. He gives the Spiraflo Clarifier an "A+" rating and says it is an "excellent product that can handle well above capacity." |
