Equipment Maintenance

Minimal maintenance performed.

Each fall, Fox Metro Water Reclamation District, located in Oswego, IL, experiences problems with high solids loading events due to heavy fall rains and excess leaves. Lakeside recommended the Raptor®  Wash Press for its compaction and dewatering, which results in a reduced discharge volume.

A 140 ft3/hr Wash Press operated for one month as a demo unit to test the equipment with the facility's needs. With two stages of compaction and dewatering in a single screw design, the Wash Press handled the extra leaf loads and was added as a permanent piece at the plant. It is automated to adjust from the average flow of 42 MGD to a peak flow of 85 MGD, accommodating the plant's screens when they run continuously. When the screens return to standard operation, the Wash Press returns to its standard operation.

A typical Wash Press reduces screenings volume by more than 50 percent and weight by more than 67 percent. The plant now saves $675/week in disposal fees.

Maintenance Supervisor Chris Morphey says the "equipment is reliable and service is good." He is satisfied with Lakeside's service, equipment and representatives, who are "easy to work with."
