Effluent limitation regulations required changes in technology for the Snow Hill, NC, wastewater treatment plant in 2000.
In order to meet the stringent nutrient removal standards, the plant was equipped with Lakeside products. The plant now runs with biological nutrient removal (BNR), where unaerated anaerobic, unaerated anoxic and aerobic reactors control oxygen levels. Lakeside Magna Rotors provide oxygen to the closed loop reactor (CLR) to oxydize organic carbon compounds and convert ammonia nitrogen to nitrates.
Soluble phosphorus is removed and stored in the bacteria cells, as part of luxury uptake, minimizing the addition of chemicals. Following the CLRs, the flow is split into two Lakeside Spiraflo Clarifiers for solids separation and the sludge is pumped back to the CLRs. The final effluent is disinfected through chlorination and dechlorination. Waste activated sludge is processed in two aerobic digesters and two aerated holding tanks prior to land application.
Chief Operator Dana Hill couldn?t be more pleased with Lakeside equipment or Lakeside service: "Lakeside has provided extremely reliable equipment supplemented by a knowledgeable, friendly service staff." Plant operators note that the ease of operation is "unsurpassed."
He was most impressed with the Lakeside staff, as he pointed out Lakeside representative Jerry Cinq-Mars. "[He] has been very helpful. Willingly going beyond the call of duty." Hill said he would "absolutely" recommend Lakeside to other plants and operators.
